Applications for Alumni Association Scholarships Now Open

Grade 12 students are invited to apply for the SJR Alumni Association Scholarship (deadline April 14, 2023).

The St. John's-Ravenscourt Alumni Association offers two (2) First Year University Scholarships to SJR students graduating from Grade 12.

One scholarship is tenable for one year at the University of Manitoba's St. John’s College. The other scholarship is tenable for one year at any university of the student’s choice. It is important that applicants clearly indicate on their application form which university or college they expect to attend in the fall.

These scholarships are granted and administered by the SJRAA. A committee of the Alumni Association reviews all applications and the awards are made based on individual applicants’ success in fulfilling the criteria set by the Association. The criterion for successful applicants includes exercising leadership, or responsibility in their activities and involvement in both School and community organizations, programs, and activities over the past few years. Academic marks will also be a consideration.

Successful applicants will be required to meet with a committee of the Alumni Association Board; interviews will be conducted in April/May using Microsoft teams. The scholarships will be awarded at Convocation.

To apply, submit the following items to the Senior School Office:

  1. A completed Application Form [PDF]. You can also pick up a hard copy at the Senior School Office.
  2. A letter to the SJRAA explaining why you are applying for the scholarship.
It must include your involvement in both School and community organizations, programs, and activities over the past few years- whether you have exercised leadership, or responsibility in your activities and if so, in what way.
  3. A letter of recommendation from a teacher.
  4. A letter of recommendation from someone not involved in SJR.
Note: By signing the application, you give the SJRAA Scholarship Committee access to your transcripts. These will be used for scholarship purposes only.

Deadline: Applications must be submitted to the Senior School Office by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024.

St. John’s-Ravenscourt School was founded in 1820 principally to serve the children of the Selkirk settlers. By 1834 there were forty students, evenly split between boys and girls. SJR has inevitably grown and changed over the years since, though its success throughout has been unimpeachable. We have graduated 18 Rhodes scholars, for example, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II granted patronage and established a scholarship in her name in 1981. Today the programs are as strong as our reputation. A strong academic program is paired with an equally strong attention to the values of stewardship, ethical leadership, and excellence in all areas of academic, social and athletic life.
